Items can be restricted in the institutional repository for one of the following reasons:

  1. It is a metadata-only item.
  2. An item is under an embargo for a specified period of time due to publisher restrictions.
  3. An item is under an embargo at the request of the author.

How to get access for each of the above reasons:

  1. For metadata only records.
    • Contact digitize@ucalgary.ca and we’ll see if we can digitize a copy and make it available to you under library exceptions.
  2. For items under an embargo due to publisher restrictions:
    • The author can choose to send the requester a copy if their publisher agreement allows.
    • Request a copy from the author by selecting the file link and submitting the Request a copy form.
    • The library can provide a link to the publisher’s version of the item.
  3. For items under an embargo due to author restrictions:
    • The author can elect to send the requester a copy if their publisher agreement allows.
    • Request a copy from the author by selecting the file link and submitting the Request a copy form.
    • The library cannot provide access until the embargo is lifted.
